Home Office Equipment List
Here at McIntosh Staffing Agency, LLC we receive plenty of questions about office needs so we put together a home office equipment list. We're hoping this list put you on the right path to easily gathering everything you need for your home office. Of course we'll cover the basics like having a computer and a phone line. We will also try our best to include those things that are often forgotten. Some of these items, that may be hard to find online, can be found at Amazon.com.
We work with plenty of agents on a daily bases so we know a thing or two about home office needs. Nevertheless, our home office equipment list may not be exhaustive, as office needs and items are often changing with time and technology. Therefore we will try to keep our home office equipment list up to date.

The basic home computer has more than enough memory and power to get you started, especially if your computer is no older than 3 years old. If you would like to purchase a new computer you should be able to get one relatively cheap if you're on a budget.
Dual monitors preferred: some program may require having multiple windows. If you already have a computer picking up a second monitor shouldn't break the bank.

You will need high-speed internet connection to work from home for most opportunities McIntosh Staffing Agency, LLC offer. Just about any carrier will do that provides you a modem.
You won't need blazing fast internet, but you will need a minimum 10 megabytes per second (mbps) download and minimum 3 mbps upload capability.
Some programs will require you to have a dedicated phone. You can easily find a phone for under $20 without all of the bells and whistles. You will want to make sure that the phone is corded, not cordless for security purposes. Most internet and cable providers can add a easily add a line to your plan for a few extra dollars a month. Services like Ooma and Magic Jack will not work.
In my opinion it's always good to have a headset. Who wants to hold a phone for hours in a day? Working with one is simply more convenient. Some programs we offer actually require a headset instead of a phone line. That headset would plug directly to your computer.
If you already have a good headset you're in business. Before you go out and buy a headset check with your program requirements. You may not even need one. And then again...
You can't have a home office equipment list without including a desk. Nevertheless, I've actually work on my kitchen table before my office needs outgrew the space. And then again, there was that thing with eating dinner in my work-space. But I digress. If you're just getting started a small table pushed aside could do. A desk would be nice. Besides, you're going to need a place to set the computer, right?
Again, you don't have to break the bank. You can start small and simple. You'll know when it's time to upgrade or when you need more space.
Most office equipment should be easy to find. But if you do not want to waste time or money consider WAHEP. They're relatively inexpensive and have quality products.
